Visa Extension in Nha Trang: Agent or Sponsor, Cost Compared
The law has the inviting or sponsoring organisation or individual file a stay extension, not the foreigner. The government fee is US$10 per extension. On 12 October 2026, three agency websites advertised one-month extensions from US$30 to US$100 or more. Ask any agency in writing which organisation sponsors your file.

The law has your sponsor file a visa extension, not you.
Người nước ngoài đang tạm trú tại Việt Nam có nhu cầu gia hạn tạm trú phải đề nghị cơ quan, tổ chức, cá nhân mời, bảo lãnh làm thủ tục tại cơ quan quản lý xuất nhập cảnh hoặc cơ quan có thẩm quyền của Bộ Ngoại giao.
A foreigner staying in Vietnam who wants to extend their stay must ask the inviting or sponsoring organisation or individual to do the procedure at the immigration management agency or the competent agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Law 47/2014/QH13, Điều 35 khoản 1
The government fee is US$10 each time. Agencies advertise much more for the same one-month extension. This page sets the two side by side; the filing steps are in extending your visa in Nha Trang.
Which case are you?
- You have a sponsor, such as an organisation or a Vietnamese grandparent, parent, spouse, child or sibling: your sponsor files, and the government fee is US$10.
- You have no sponsor: the law names the sponsor as the filer. Agencies advertise handling the paperwork, and the file still needs a sponsoring organisation or individual.
- You want a price that includes everything: no agency page checked on 12 October 2026 itemised the US$10 government fee.
- You want to know the timing: the law gives immigration 5 working days from a complete file.
- You hold an e-visa or entered visa-free: an exempt entrant may be considered for an extension, and an e-visa holder for a new visa if invited or guaranteed.

Worked scenarios
Each row gives what the cited texts say about who files, the fee and the time. None adds a price an agency has not advertised.
| Your situation | Who files | Fee and time |
|---|---|---|
| A company in Vietnam invites you | The inviting organisation, which must already have a dossier at the provincial immigration division | US$10, up to 5 working days |
| You are married to a Vietnamese citizen | Your spouse, with proof of the relationship | US$10, up to 5 working days |
| A Vietnamese sibling or parent sponsors you | The relative, with proof of the relationship | US$10, up to 5 working days |
| You entered on the 45-day exemption | A sponsor files; you may be considered for an extension | US$10 |
| You hold an e-visa | The e-visa portal says you may be considered for a new visa if invited or guaranteed | A new visa has its own fee |
| You hold a visa-exemption certificate for overseas Vietnamese and relatives | A sponsor files; a stay of 6 months per entry can extend by up to 6 months with a valid reason | Listed as its own procedure on the Khanh Hoa list |
Two routes, one legal requirement
Either route ends with a sponsor filing the request at the immigration agency. The difference is who the sponsor is and who does the legwork.
In the first route you arrange your own sponsor. A Vietnamese citizen who sponsors you must be your grandparent, parent, spouse, child or sibling, and must show proof of the relationship. In the second route an agency handles the paperwork. Agency pages describe submitting it for you, so ask who the sponsor on the file is.
An organisation that requests visas or extensions must already have a dossier at the provincial immigration division. The extension file includes the foreigner’s passport or other international travel document, one original. The official page says the request can be filed in person, online or by post.

What an agent can and cannot do
The law text names who files: the inviting or sponsoring organisation or individual. What agency pages describe is submitting the paperwork on your behalf.
Three points follow from the texts. The sponsor on the file is a legal party, so ask the agency for its name in writing. The official eligibility conditions are a valid passport, a visa unless exempt, and a temporary residence certification. An organisation found responsible for a violation it sponsored is fined at double the individual rate.
The immigration authority makes the decision, within 5 working days of a complete file.
What agencies advertise
Prices below are advertised on agency websites and were read on 12 October 2026. They are not quotes obtained for this guide, and none of the three itemises the government fee.
| Agency website | One-month tourist extension | Time advertised |
|---|---|---|
| Visumvietnamonline.com | 95 USD | 5 - 7 working days, or 3 working days urgent |
| Visa.seniworld.com | $30-$50 | 7 to 10 working days |
| Vietnam-immigration.org.vn | from 100 USD | 7 working days |
Prices run from US$30 to US$100 or more, against the US$10 government fee. The table is a record of advertising, not a recommendation of any of them.

Three details differ between agency pages. Visumvietnamonline.com asks clients to send the original passport to its office in person or by post and pay its service fee. It also says the Immigration Department holds the passport while the extension is processed.
Visa.seniworld.com says extensions must be submitted physically to authorized agents or immigration authorities. The official page lists an online route. When an agency page and the official page disagree, follow the official page.
Fee, refunds and related charges
The government fee for a stay extension is US$10 per extension. Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC took effect on 1 April 2026. It replaces Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC.
Fees for foreigners are collected in Vietnamese dong or US dollars. Amounts set in USD may be paid in USD, or in dong converted at the rate set under Decree 362/2025/NĐ-CP. If the applicant is not eligible or refuses to accept the result, the fee already paid is not refunded.
That rule is about the fee-collecting body. It says nothing about an agency’s own charge, so ask for the agency’s terms in writing. If you file online and ask for the result by post, you pay the courier fee.

The same circular sets other charges, so compare like with like when an agency quotes a bundle.
| Procedure | Government fee |
|---|---|
| Temporary-stay extension, each time | US$10 |
| Single-entry visa of any validity | US$25 |
| Multiple-entry visa valid up to 90 days | US$50 |
| New or re-issued visa exemption certificate | US$10 |
| Temporary residence card valid up to 2 years | US$145 |
A lost, damaged or expired document that must be re-issued costs the same as a new one. The full schedule is in Vietnam immigration fees.
How long it takes
The immigration authority has up to 5 working days from receipt of a complete file. Agencies advertise 3 to 10 working days. The legal clock starts only when the file is complete.
Results are returned from Monday to Friday, except Tet and public holidays. When you collect the result, bring the appointment slip. The extension is not worth leaving to the last day: an overstay is a violation from the first day.
Forms and what the file holds
The declaration form for an extension is NA5. NA5 was revised by Circular 70/2026/TT-BCA, in force from 1 July 2026. NA6, NA7 and NA8 belong to the separate temporary residence card procedure.
The official eligibility conditions are a valid passport, a visa (except in cases of visa exemption) and a temporary residence certification. Eligibility also means the person is not on the “not allowed entry” list or under an exit suspension.
The national procedure lists no maximum extension length.
Filing in Nha Trang
The Khanh Hoa police immigration service list includes “Extending temporary stay for foreigners in Vietnam”. The national page says applications are received from Monday to Saturday morning, except Tet and public holidays.
In a notice of 27/06/2025, the Immigration Management Division of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police said it would receive applications in person at 47 Ly Tu Trong, Loc Tho, Nha Trang. Office details are on the Nha Trang immigration office page.

If the filing is late
An overstay is an administrative violation from the first day. Fines for an individual under Decree 282/2025/NĐ-CP rise with the days overstayed.
| Days past the permitted stay | Fine (VND) |
|---|---|
| Under 16 days | 500,000 to 2,000,000 |
| 16 to under 30 days | 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 |
| 30 to under 60 days | 10,000,000 to 15,000,000 |
| 60 to under 90 days | 15,000,000 to 20,000,000 |
| 90 days or more, up to under 1 year | 20,000,000 to 30,000,000 |
| 1 year or more | 30,000,000 to 40,000,000 |
Deportation can be added for an overstay of 16 days or more. A deported foreigner is refused entry for 3 years. The fined person must pay within 10 days of receiving the decision, unless it states a longer deadline. See Vietnam overstay fines in Nha Trang.
E-visa holders and visa-free visitors
Citizens of a country granted unilateral visa exemption get 45 days of stay and may be considered for a visa or a stay extension. The official e-visa portal says e-visa holders in Viet Nam may be considered for a new visa if invited or guaranteed by an authority, organisation or individual in Viet Nam.
The Khanh Hoa list also has a separate procedure for “Extending temporary stay for persons issued a visa-exemption certificate”. See Vietnam visa exemption in Nha Trang and the e-visa guide.
Which route fits
- You have a sponsoring organisation, or a Vietnamese grandparent, parent, spouse, child or sibling with proof of the relationship: your sponsor files, for US$10.
- You have no sponsor of your own: agencies advertise handling the paperwork. Ask for the sponsor’s name and for a written quote that separates the US$10 government fee from the agency’s charge.
- You hold a work visa and a permit: the permit process is in work permit in Nha Trang.

Not confirmed: No source says whether e-visa holders and 45-day exemption entrants can extend, how many times a stay can be extended, or whether agency prices include the US$10 government fee. Ask the Nha Trang immigration office before you pay an agency.
