What to see on the Khanh Le Pass road

The pass sits on National Highway 27C. A sign at the foot on the Khanh Vinh side gives its length as 29 km.

The pass

MIA.vn says the pass first opened in late 2006. It says the pass shortened Nha Trang to Da Lat to 140 km, previously 220 km.

One report calls it 29 km long, excluding the foot of the pass, and one of the longest passes in the country.

MIA.vn gives the car route from Nha Trang as To Huu street, DT657, National Highway 27C, then the pass.

Driving it yourself

MIA.vn says the pass is also called Omega, a name that hints at its many bends. It advises driving slowly enough to see the sharp bends.

From central Da Lat, head along Phan Chu Trinh to National Highway 27C and straight on toward Lac Duong to reach the pass. On that side the road passes Than Tho Lake, Thai Phien flower village and Zoodoo zoo.

MIA.vn says the pass joins two climates, so the weather is hard to predict. It advises a rain jacket and protective gear, and a careful check of the vehicle, especially brakes and tyres.

Landslides, closures and rain notices

On 20/12/2024 VOV reported a provincial order for checkpoints on National Highway 27C and a ban on vehicles, especially passenger vehicles, on heavy-rain days. It said the road was subsiding at many places, with a landslide risk if heavy rain continued.

After the 15/12 landslide that year, one lane reopened at 2:30 am on 19/12.

VietnamPlus reports severe landslides on the route in late 2025. The Km45 incident on the night of 16/11/2025 killed 6 people and injured 19.

Repairs and the latest statement

On 15/9 the Khanh Hoa Department of Construction said 9 damaged sites on National Highway 27C were being repaired for nearly VND 125 billion. It aimed to finish in early October 2026, before the usual storm season.

The project began on 8/6 and covers Km26+000 to Km65+543. The local commune set up checkpoints at overflow bridges and landslide-risk points.

No completion notice was found. Check road status before you leave.

Fog

MIA.vn warns of fog on the pass in autumn and winter, especially from 2 pm. It advises limiting travel on the pass in heavy rain or storms because of landslides and cloud.

When to go and how long

The guide puts bus travel at about 4 to 5 hours and a taxi or car at about 3 to 3.5 hours. A press report gives 3.5 to 4 hours for the trip today.

MIA.vn advises limiting travel on the pass in heavy rain or storms. The Department of Construction aimed to finish repairs before the usual storm season. Read Nha Trang storm and flood season before you pick a travel day.

Fog on the pass is more likely from 2 pm in autumn and winter, says MIA.vn. A morning departure avoids that hour. The first Futabus leaves at 08:00.

Bring a light jacket, since the temperature drops noticeably approaching Da Lat.

Nearby and how to combine it

MIA.vn suggests combining the drive with Yang Bay waterfall, Hon Ba or the Hon Giao stream. Read Yang Bay waterfall for the stop nearest Nha Trang.
