Vegan, Vegetarian and Halal Food in Nha Trang: Where to Eat

For vegan food, go to iVegan Supershop or Rice on Rice. Tue Nguyen and But Viet serve vegetarian chay. For halal, Halal UMMA, Cappadocia, SAHIN and The Cozy Eastern are the names to try. HALCERT lists no Nha Trang restaurant, so ask each one for its certificate.

Chay means vegetarian. Wikivoyage’s phrasebook gives “I’m a vegetarian” as Toi la nguoi an chay. Fish sauce is nuoc mam. A chay restaurant may still use it, so say you want none.

For other diets, Wikivoyage gives “I don’t eat pork” as Toi khong an thit lon, and “I don’t eat beef” as Toi khong an thit bo. Vegetarian food is largely eaten on the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month.

Halal in Nha Trang: what the lists say

The VinWonders halal guide, captured 12/10/2026. Source: VinWonders guide to halal food in Nha Trang (opens in a new tab), captured 12 October 2026

VinWonders titles its December 2025 guide the top 7 halal restaurants in Nha Trang and calls them certified. It names no certificate or certifier. It says many halal restaurants are along Nguyen Thien Thuat Street and near the central beach on Tran Phu Street.

The guide also lists three halal names that are not profiled above:

  • Plov House Halal, 96B/5/10 Tran Phu Street, open 10 am to 11 pm.
  • Kebab Point, 8/22 Nguyen Thien Thuat Street, open 11 am to 11 pm.
  • Ganesh Indian Restaurant, 186 Hung Vuong Street, open 11 am to 10 pm.

These details come from the guide alone, so confirm hours before you go.

Treat a travel guide’s word “certified” as a claim to check, not proof. The next two sections show how.

Who certifies halal in Vietnam

HALCERT customer page with a group photo and a Featured Clients heading
The HALCERT customers page, captured 12/10/2026. Source: HALCERT customers page (opens in a new tab), captured 12 October 2026

HALCERT, the National Halal Certification Center, is a unit under Vietnam’s Conformity Certification Center. Its customers page lists certified businesses in a table with the unit name, address, certificate number, certificate scope, validity and certification mark. It presents them as HALCERT’s traditional customers, not as a complete register.

The list shows one Khanh Hoa entry: a bird’s nest manufacturing premise in Cam Ranh City. Its certificate validity ends on 11/06/2026. No restaurant in Nha Trang appears.

A certificate carries an end date. A sample entry shows validity as a date range. HALCERT says halal certification usually has to be renewed periodically, often annually.

How to check a halal claim

HALCERT FAQ page headed with questions about the certification process
The HALCERT FAQ page, captured 12/10/2026. Source: HALCERT FAQ page (opens in a new tab), captured 12 October 2026

Ask the restaurant for the certificate. Look at the number, the scope and the end date, then check them with HALCERT. HALCERT lists a contact phone, +84 024 37561025, and an email, halcert@most.gov.vn.

What the certifier says halal means:

  • Certified products and services contain no Haram ingredients and do not touch anything deemed impure.
  • All animals used for food in halal food establishments must be slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines.
  • Halal food establishments are prohibited from serving alcoholic beverages.
  • A packaged halal product label should carry the term halal or a halal logo.
  • Halal food must not be transported or stored together with non-halal food.

If no place shows a certificate

Judge a place by what is on the door and the table. A halal logo on the door is not a certificate; the label rule asks for the term halal or a logo on packaged products.

Ask for the unit name, certificate number, scope and end date, the columns HALCERT uses in its own table.

Ask where the meat comes from and whether the kitchen serves alcohol. Vegetarian and vegan places answer the pork question by design, but fish sauce still shows up in chay food.
